Teaching Philosophy

Teaching Biography
My lessons and teaching style are a reflection of my own life experiences, as well as the direct influence of my journey as a music, drum set, and percussion student. With gratefulness, I would like to mention and thank all the drumset and percussion teachers that have been part of my education, inspiration, and growth as a drummer:
Julian Arteaga— a local well-versed popular and rock drummer In Ibagué Colombia
Victor Bastidas — a Jazz Fusion master in Bogota, Colombia
Marco Vinicio Oyaga — Master percussionist and band director, drummer for Toto La Momposina
Jose Lopera — Pop rock master from Medillin, Colombia (Juanes, Ecchymosis)
Johannes Bockholt— A German, contemporary jazz master that had a residency in Bogota, Colombia, and was teaching at Javeriana University
Javier Reyes — Jazz Master and first Colombian drummer to get a graduate degree as a drummer
Yoel Del Sol — Drummer for Yanni, El Puma, Celia Cruz
Tim Kuchta — Contemporary, Rock, R&B, Jazz, African Percussion
George Mazzeo — Contemporary Jazz master
Richard Bravo — Drummer for Ed Calle, Ricardo Montaner, Christina Aguilera
Ivan Zervigon — Latin Jazz, Fusion master
Jimmy Daniel — Rock, R&B, World Music Master and drummer for Diana Ross
All of this incredible instruction led me to humbly becoming a drumset educator. I had the opportunity of working for many music academies including, “Shake A Leg Mami” , where I had the pleasure of teaching music, drum and percussion lessons for special needs children. I closed my chapter in South Florida as a resident teacher of School Of Rock in North Miami Beach.

What People Are Saying
“When looking for drum lessons for my son, Andres was introduced to us by the school owners as the drum teacher. Andres's great personality quickly allowed my son to love their time together and to expand his creative self. Caring for his students and being passionate about music is certainly one of his greatest strengths.”
— Elizabeth and David DeSouza
“Dear Lucky Nashville Cats, Andres Roa is a beloved, passionate, and committed Drum Instructor revered by Parents, Students and his teaching peers alike. At The School of Rock in North Miami, He brought such zeal and excitement to his students in teaching them how to follow their hearts and become committed and professional drummers. Andres is also able to teach very young children, hold their attention for their entire drum lesson, and make them excited to practice their homework and look forward to coming for their lesson the next week. Andres is the student whisperer who can motivate, encourage his students to achieve greatness, all the while making the lesson fun and entertaining. “
—Nancy Sullivan, Owner of The School of Rock in North Miami
“Andres Roa is ‘the ultimate professional’. I can stop here but must elaborate. I owned a music school in the South Floria area for about 20 years and Andres was my drum instructor for 10 plus of those years. During that time I observed his continuous growth as a professional musician; he never stopped learning. I call him the Ultimate pro, for several reasons, his passion for music, the love he has for his instrument, his innovation, and his exceptional work ethic. He was always on time for work radiating such a positive attitude. He expensed a high level of energy to every lesson he teaches. Resulting in his students being engaged and highly motivated. I know for certain that some of his students are still playing.”
—Anthony Allman, Owner of Anthony Allman’s Music School
